 Back again with gratitude

There’s so much to post about but my happy news today is my 10 year old granddaughter and her dad (my older son) are visiting.

It’s Chinese dinner tonight for my sister, younger son, granddaughter and Dad and myself.

We’re having a busy day so will close and post often now that I am back.

Can’t wait to catch up on all the bloggers I followed.

Much love to all,

Jean Mac

 Kitty Borden Imposter

Again, I found this picture online with no way to give credit.

Anyway, years ago, Mom and Dad had a cat looking very much like this one.

Somehow a mouse got into the house and ended up in the master bathroom. Dad, at 5’10” and 250 thought it would be easy to dispose of the intruder.

Well, mouse got behind the toilet and a guy weighing 250 wasn’t able to reach the mouse.

He called to Mom, “Quick, get the cat and put her through door quickly.”

This was accomplished  - but the cat sat there “outstaring” the mouse. Dad was so annoyed with her.

Anyway, long story short, the mouse was eventually disposed of by Dad - all the while being watched by the cat.

I think my brother named her KB - certainly not for her killer instincts.

Omelette Failure

So I saw this online - sorry, don’t know who to give credit to.

Anyway, I don’t make quite a mess such as this but have never made a perfectly presentable omelette.
My son is a red seal chef and when he visits, it’s such a treat to be served a perfected “constructed” omelette.
I stand by as he works and it looks just sooo easy - but it’s not easy for me!
My breakfast specialties will continue to be of an oven nature - much more successful!

This is our favourite oven omelette:
8 slices of bacon cooked til crisp
1/4 cup green onion - sliced
3/4 cups seeded, diced tomatoes
1 Tbsp flour
Salt and pepper
6 eggs
1 cup milk
1 1/4 cup cheddar - shredded
1 Tbsp Parmesan
Method:
Sprinkle four and salt over the tomatoes. Toss lightly.
Beat eggs and milk: add vegetable mixture, 1 cup Cheddar and cooked bacon.

Pour into 8’ x 8” glass pan
Sprinkle with Parmesan.
Bake 25 minutes. Sprinkle remaining Cheddar over.
***let stand 5-10 minutes ***

No mystery to my loss - - -

So, over the past  24 months, I have lost 64 pounds.

The way I achieved this was by no longer eating dessert, no longer having my single glass of wine three nights a week and rarely dining out.

Also, I tried to walk 20 minutes 6 days per week.

The past winter was very cold so many days I didn’t walk and this summer has been brutally hot. Regardless, I keep slowly losing weight - very slowly but that’s Ok.

About once every 6 weeks I treat myself to a small vanilla ice cream cone.

That’s all folks.

Socks - - -

So I was browsing around Ross store for glass pumpkins when up popped a package of six tennis socks - for $3.99!

Can they be of any quality at all? Well, forgot mine so we shall see - one gets surprised at times.

Since I haven’t up;oalded pics or posted recently, I forget how to load pics from my cell but I’ll figure it out. In the meanwhile, no pictures.

Friends, past and future

It’s 5:25am, can’t sleep so decided to “try” blogging again.

Every day I think of my blogging friends and feel guilty that I dropped out of sight.

It’s funny how I’d go to post and nothing would “come” - kind of like now:)

Anyway, there is lots to write about and I’ll do my best to update - but first I have to find your blogs and read to catch up.

Love to all, Jean

Reign of Terror

                                                   Grade IV

It was 1955 and I encountered my first really scary, mean teacher.

This year would be "life in the trenches" so to speak and enough it seriously gave me nightmares.

Back then one didn't go home and tell parents how things were - well, the good things, but - - -

To get to the point, this teacher gave a strap on a pupil's hand for every spelling mistake. One little guy, Sammy, was tortured by her and as I think back, maybe he had a slight learning disability.

I lived in mortal fear of the strap and escaped her wrath til one day! An error in our spelling test!

I was so terrified and really offended that I "got the strap" as always studied to avoid.

Moving forward to school's going back in after Christmas and the staff solemnly gathered in our room to tell us that "two teachers had driven an 8 hour journey together to visit family. There has been a terrible accident an one has died." Seriously, I'm sure I wasn't the only pupil making a wish at that moment.

Wishes don't always come true - learned at that time. It was the sweetest, kindest teacher who had passed away. Did I or do I feel guilt for my feelings - no.

Have You Driven a Fork Lately - - -

So last night I pushed over a full, large water glass on the dining table - in a panic to grab towels, I knocked my silverware onto the floor.

Ran for the towels, mopped everything up, twirled around and drove the tines of my fork into the side of my foot - about where people tend to "grow" bunions.

Now, that's tough tissue to manage to drive a fork into - did I mention it bled like crazy - left a handsome trail to the bedroom and hopscotched over the carpet to the bath.

All is well this morn although my foot aches - wonder why - - -

(Oh, how did a fork drive into my foot, well, it just happened to land at the edge of a bound area rug so when I ran into it, the fork did not move:)

PS Anyone for dinner, I'll let you use my own special vicious fork - - -

Where are the police when we need them -

Yellows and reds - I'm so sick of seeing 3 drivers go thru the yellow traffic lights followed by 2 thru the red.

Is it only our area or does everyone experience this?

Post # 1 in series - - - Do What I Say, Not What I Do:)

Several months ago I dropped my Rx glasses as I was switching to my Rx sunglasses.

Fumbling around, I stepped on them and jumped as if they were a hot potato - as if that would help at that stage.

Anyway, long story short, new lenses and frames as I had ground them into the only patch of gravel in miles.

Tuesday, rushing to go into Wayne's care home - well, just re-read first few lines!

Couldn't believe it - always change from sunglasses to regular or vice versa - in the car - where it's safer - for the glasses!

Anyway, found weird old eyeglasses that would "do" for 10 days till I sport new ones - just over $700 worth of new ones.

Just under the wire - - - -

It's just under a year since I last posted  - no heart to do so. This morning I decided to give it a try and have forgotten a lot about posting and pics!

I can't thank readers enough who sent emails and asked about how life was. We truly are blessed to have blogging friends both near and far. Thank you - and yes, Doc, you may use that post in Menopause Momenta - I fear you will have a lot of material from my blog if I post the weird stuff I encounter every day - I guess they are menopause moment!

Only a true friend would - - -

So my friend and I were lunching and I suddenly placed my hands on my face, pulled lifted and said that I'd like to get a facelift - I need one.

As only a dear, supportive friend would reply, "Just do your neck, your face is fine."

After she said it, a look of horror crossed her face but I was rolling around on the floor laughin. Love you, Dear one.

Too Busy Living Life - - -

Lately there have been sad stories of children and pets being left to die in hot vehicles.

In most cases, it appears to be a terrible tragedy - the result of "busyness" and distraction. There is a case of one father alledgedly leaving his child but that is the exception.

I think I may have a solution!!!

What if every person in charge of the child or infant, set his phone alarm for 5 minutes past his drop time? Also, could co-workers develop a buddy system of checking with one another if indeed the child had been dropped off - and not left in a vehicle. If a spouse is in the picture, maybe a text confirmation??

Have you paid attention when the lead flight attendant calls out for crew to "arm doors and cross check"?

This requires each attendant to arm his/her door and then walk across the plane to "cross check" that the door has been secured by the other crew.

Seems such  a simple solution to save lives. Please pass these ideas along to friends and family. Maybe, just maybe, we can save the children - and the pets.

Note: I have a story to tell not quite leaving a child but forgetting my friend! When she broke her leg, I picked her up and drove her to physio, went home for an hour and then picked her up again.

One day the phone rang and she asked if I were on my way to get her. "Didn't I already pick you up??!!"
I seriously thought I had.

She was safe, had a cell and could call for help - unlike the children.

So I understand how the busyness of life can get in the way. It's so tragic when these deaths are the result of a total accidental situation.

There now, freaked him out - - -

I don't know about you, but flashing lights at concerts really bother me.

The regular sunglasses I use didn't block the really bright lights.

Off to the store to buy lime green crafter paint. Applied on both sides of the lens really helped.

Lime green you ask, well no one sees me slip them on once the fun begins so why not?

The other night, a friendly gentleman sitting next to me, commented on something. I turned to answer forgetting my slime green lenses. He's probably still running screaming.

As I type this, why not get my Hallowe'en kit out and add a black tooth for next time?

Coffee

So this morn settled in the den, feet up, computer on and ready to do my thing.I filled the pot with water, grabbed a pod, whirled around and got a mug.

With much ado, I gathered my stuff and reached to take a sip - empty mug.

I love mornings:)

Ear Re-piercing - - -

So, about 50 plus years ago a group of my "friends" met at ****'s house before choir practice.

The conversation came around to ear piercing and once the "mob" realized my ears were all pink and healthy, decided to make them painful, infected and very angry red!

They dragged me off to the bathroom and sat me on the toilet seat - I've no idea why toilet seat and not kitchen chair - maybe her mom would have intervened - if only:)

That night I couldn't sleep for the pain and woke up with swollen, sore, you name it earlobes.

The right ear didn't have a good hole and I have fought to put earrings in for ages.

Monday, at Merle Norman, I was waiting for a makeup lesson - why, I don't know as rarely wear it. Anyway, I heard a bloodcurdling, furious scream emerge from a back area and realized a toddler just had her ears pierced.

By this time I had requested the tech re-do my ear - that toddler had nothing on me! I couldn't cream out loud as that would have been pitiful but I did a big one silently! What a wimp.
