An Opinion and A grain of Salt

Usually I try to keep my blog entries rather benign and opinion free (yah, really). But today I have a couple thoughts to get off my chest.

As usual, check out my emails and blogs first, then the news headlines - mostly CNN and a couple Canadian sites.

Mary Winkler's trial begins today -My heart ached when her friend said: "Mary never said anything, I never saw signs of abuse, "usually there would be telltale signs of abuse".

Well, maybe you live in an insulated little "perfect" world but please educate yourself. Who could Mary confide in, who could she turn to? She was a pastor's wife in a small town. And if you ever crawl out of your shell, you should really pick up copies of a few magazines (this is 2007!) and read up on spousal abuse - not only male but female, too. (Mary, the hugs are for you!)

God help Mary during this trial - hopefully the jurors are more educated and aware than her friends on the social issue of abuse. Guess I better say, of course, I don't condone what she did but I am almost afraid to follow the trial and hear what went on in the neat little house with the white picket fence!

Another form of abuse is elder
abuse, which is more and more
common. Horrible to think that
there are children out there who
take advantae of their aging, ailing parents by robbing them of
their incomes, savings and possessions.

I did not hear about this, but I will have to follow up and see what happens with this case. Yes, all things are not as they seem in most cases...
