Dog Food a la hash

Years ago, in 1989 to be specific, I made a dog food - shiny, slimy, really good aroma dog food.

A roast beef recipe I like calls for Camp*ells golden mushroom soup. The roast was divine. Recalling that Mom often made hash with her leftover mashed potatoes, gravy and meat, I made hash.

We oohed and awed over the aroma til it was time to serve it. Looked just exactly like dog food. I guess the soup gave it that df shininess. I looked away as I made our plates up. Both sat down and agreed we couldn't eat it - and didn't even have a dog to toss it to.
So BearNaked has been busy passing out awards (thank you!) to bloggers.

For her to choose this blog is quite an honor as she's got a blog with a lot of energy and it's all about being bare, bear, I mean.

Wendy, one of the gang of bloggers, sure deserved it. Check out her blog, too.

A big bear hug is sent your way.

Kicked that lion in the rear and got the lawns done.

I picked green and yellow beans. Blanched and frozen. Pulled the rest of the bean plants. We may have had another harvest but I'm already tired of the garden. Roast beef in oven for supper.

Forecast is for rain but I had to water the yard, very dry. If we get showers, it will be a bonus, esp. for the garden.

Our lovely daughter-in-law flew home yesterday to visit family and friends. Mark told me she should arrive at 1 a.m. Well, I lay awake and finally, at 1:10 a.m. was able to doze off for the night!

Our weather is "feeling" very different. This morn, we saw our company depart at 7:20 and I felt moisture and a chill in the air - not complaining as it's been in the 30's.

Have been reading blogs and now reality hits - the lawns are so long that I think wild animals are grazing safely out there.

Have a good day, Everyone.

WOMEN'S REVENGE

'Cash,
check or charge?' I asked, after folding items the woman wished to purchase.

As she fumbled for her wallet, I noticed a remote control for a television set in her purse.

'So, do you always carry your TV remote?' I asked.

'No,' she replied, 'but my husband refused to come shopping with me,

and I figured this was the most evil thing I could do to him legally.'

Lettuce Do Our Laundry

A post or two back, mentioned I lost part of my lettuce spinner. Today, I washed lettuce, wrapped it in a white kitchen towel and set it all in the sink.

Time to do the whites - all my kitchen towels. Grabbed everything, tossed it in the washer.

Final spin, yes, you've guessed it already. My washer is coated with lettuce. Now, if I tried to carry a towel of lettuce 15' to the washer, it would never happen. Some would have fallen out to alert me.

I'm rewashing the towels - I think the lettuce as had enough washing and is well spun dry!

Update: Got an email wondering if I used the lettuce. No, a thousand times no.

Poor Couple! What to do???

MORRISTON, Fla. — Authorities say a Levy County, Fla., man accidentally shot his wife while trying to hit a fox that attacked her.

The couple told deputies they spotted an animal in their yard Friday morning and went outside to see what it was.

The fox bit the woman on the left leg and wouldn't let go, so she told her husband to get a gun.

The man fired a .22-caliber rifle seven times, killing the animal but also hitting his wife in the lower right leg.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The dead fox will be tested for rabies, but authorities say the results won't be available until next week.

Oh, to have his camera and expertise!

What are they thinking - - -

(CNN) -- A New Zealand judge has made a 9-year-old girl a ward of the court so that her name can be changed from Talula Does the Hula From Hawaii, the country's national news agency reported Thursday.

Family Court Judge Rob Murfitt listed a series of unusual names that New Zealand parents had given their children, and said he was concerned that such strange monikers would create hurdles for them as they grew up.

The view from Chef's apartment. A person could sit there all day, just watching the ships and yachts. That large one, first in line is ours ~~~

My Word, I've Never Seen So Many Cars!

Bessie was amazed to see so many cars traveling past her barn! She came out to see what all the commotion was about. "An accident, you say?" "Yes, Bessie, just up the highway, a 1/2 mile from your place."

A stern looking female RCMP was directing traffic, one car sent left, one car sent right - like it or not. The freeway was closed for over 5 hours. Turned out OK for us as R found his way, no problem.

We did get in a bit late for our visit but turned out well.

New Bed

So, our new bed was delivered today. It's the exact same as the one we bought for the guest room last year (the main floor guest room:). I looove it. All our new sheets are made for deeper mattresses, love, love it.

The one young fellow who came in the truck is a patient of mine (when I worked). He didn't know my last name and when he phoned this morn, just used his first name. What a sweetheart he is. We both just stared then laughed, Nice to see him. Both guys were great. SC sure has done a good job of PR/delivery.
Kind of embarrassing, did it again. they set the mattress in place and I remembered the bed skirt! If they were annoyed, one would never know. They even helped put it on.

I'm busy washing sheets and mattress pads, etc. from the lower guest room. First time I've used my clothes line this year. I know, bad, bad.

Have a great, sunny, warm day!

(Forgot to mention, the guys dropped their manifest in our driveway with my MC slip attached showing # and expiry date. When they came back, I asked that they put my MC slip in their wallet, please! Didn't say in case you loose your papers, again!)

Bees in the Peas - Courtesy Bro'

A Date With Sleep Count*y, I Hope

So today we pushed, pulled, grunted and snorted and, and, and - - - - finally got the queen size bed from the guest room down stairs - out!!! And I mean out - it's sitting at the back door. Being it's in great shape (rarely used), I phoned people asking if anyone needed a Q bed. No one. Can you believe it? Free! The only lady who needed one had finally bought one a couple weeks ago.

Not so bad, SC donates our old bed to charity so at least it will go to someone.

Now tomorrow will be musical beds. Our present one will go down to the guest room, the new one goes in our room and they can take the old guest bed (by the back door) away. Got that? I'm going to have to bribe them as it's above and beyond their duty. Last time I gave the 2 drivers each $10 or $20 - better check my blog entry - that was for the guest room upstairs. Are you totally confused yet?

Our hydro bill arrived with suggestions for cooling the home this summer. One idea was to keep the temp at 25 degrees, not lower.

So, yesterday I did that. He was OK with it but 24 would have been more comfortable - of course, I'm roaring around doing things so that's different.

Our basement level is very comfortable so we should just spend our time there.

Monday Musings - - -

The peas are done for the season, vines "resting" in the compost bin. We just eat them when we pick. I never plant enough for freezing.

Today, beans are ready again, hopefully enough to freeze a few meals.

Politically incorrect, but I finally have green lawns. For years, I didn't water them - looked like hay fields. Now that it's to be in the 30's, I'll have to let them go again. Nice to look at for a bit.

The laundry is done, just have to put it all away. For 2 people - can't imagine how we use so much. (Awfully dirty or awfully clean:)

Well, the beans await so have to head to the garden - it's 25 already. We have an appt. at 12:40pm but it's close to home.

Just vacuumed thru so that's it til Thursday.

Happy Monday!

Hope I'm not offending anyone - this is just personal opinion. I don't like to dress in matching jackets, etc. with my man. The only time I agreed was when we ordered our flying club jackets and our Corvette club jackets.

He neither flies or races anymore but sometime will wear his Vette jacket as it's a warm bomber style. His flying jacket is "no more". I saved the patches and have been going to mount them in a frame for him.

Both my jackets have been put away - I may turf mine as they have names, etc, embroidered on them.

Pitiful post - - -

(1) When weeding or picking, wear long sleeve shirt - my arms are all scratched/itchy from everything.

(2) If you have lots of zucchini and tomatoes, add onions and run thru the food processor, bring to a boil, fill freezer safe jars and/or Zip*ock bags. I don't add spices until I decide which dish I'll use it in.

(3) Keep up with your weeding - I didn't, so have equal weeds and wanted plants. I picked beans and blanched for the freezer today.

(4) Cut all your lawns at once (even tho you don't feel like it - we now have storms ) I did all the lawns earlier.

(5) Sit with a good book and watch the storms roll by - I'm reading fiction right now.

Faceless - - -

My friend used to say, "Just a minute, I have to put on my face." She was, ahem, mature, and did her makeup beautifully.

I have never liked it much for myself. Years ago, I'd mix a drop of foundation with my moisturizer - probably not a good idea but it felt "less there" on my face.

Every trip we make, I dutifully pack: mascara, foundation, blush and even eye shadow (horror).
Every trip we return, unpack my makeup case - still unopened!

This time, I went crazy and bought nail polish - can't remember the last time I applied it. Forgot to take it:)

Remembering You, Grandma

For You, Mom

We gathered at Brian's apartment before brunch. Met his lovely lady, Cathy, for the first time. It was touching as she presented me with a trio of sunflowers - fresh bouquet.

Isn't it nice when you get together and everyone feels comfortable? Hope we made Cathy feel welcome - I think we did.

So, I've lost the bowl for the lettuce spinner. Last evening, after soaking lettuce, reached for the gizmo and only the gizmo was there, no bowl.

I really don't like using it but had soaked 2 heads of lettuce - that would be a lot of hand drying and patting.

After a search everywhere I could imagine, it was not to be found. Dried all the lettuce and made our salads. we sat down to eat, "That's a new hat, Hon?' - just kidding.

Happy (look at the newspaper) Wednesday, Everyone.

At a Loss For Words - - -

Anyone who knows me would laugh and laugh - but I am wordless. Oh, here comes some -

We went to Vancouver to celebrate a 60th birthday (Dan's) and see our family. Left Friday morn and returned several days early, arriving last evening.

It was nice to visit and see Brian and meet his lady, Cathy. Also, good visit with MiHwa and Mark. Luxury and hospitality plus, staying at Dan's and Neil's home. Recently, they renovated their family kitchen - what a beauty.

Thanks to S&R for the chauffeur service!

Pics and details to follow if I find my words -

From My Bro'

The evolution of robbery - -

PS Email going around - if everyone boycotted Esso and Shell, prices would plummet. We did.

Those devils are at it again, I may have to enable moderation once again! Dirty rotters, just go away, live and let live.

The pool bed is about 40' x 6'
This year I decided to add cabbages, dill, parsley and tomatoes to it.

The rose pictured is one Shirl bought me in remembrance of mom back in spring '98

It's so loaded with blooms this year and no aphids. Secret below:)

I have been spraying the cabbages, in fact my whole garden, with D*wn liquid soap and water. Seems to be working. One cabbage must have been missed and was eaten til it looked like lace. Poor thing.

So, fertilized all the lawns and have created a make work project for myself. Mercy, that stuff does work, fast - the lawn is lush and green and did I mention long! Kind of grumbling to myself as I hauled the mower up to the front yard. As I slaved over the lawn, wondered if maybe I should let it grow a bit longer and cut it for hay - just kidding.

Actually, I experimented this year and used Weed 'N Fe*d on 2 lawns and straight fertilizer on the front lawn. The front lawn is doing best of the three. Course, do we want best when it just creates work? It's looking like I''ll have to mow every 3 days to keep it "neighborhood perfect".

That was the last time I'll use the Weed 'N Fe*d - it will be outlawed next season by the powers. Actually, after I *oogled it (after applying it!), it's understandable why one shouldn't use it.

But I am a bit good, I mulch my lawn, does that count:)

No One Knows - - -

I saw this printed on a roadside billboard recently: "No matter what scale we use, we never know the weight of another person's burden."

Pretty heavy and oh, so true. When Mom passed away, I jumped in the car and started out on the 8 hour drive to their home. Stopped to gas up and grab a coffee midway - the cashier was pleasant and handed me coffee, change and "have a nice day". I thanked her and thought ,"You don't know I'm on my way to my parent's home, one will be missing. I really need a hug."

Recently a friend of many years phoned me to meet for coffee - his wife of 40 plus years lies in hospital - terminal. We hugged as we met, sipped our drinks, tears sloshing around our eyes. The shop was full of people - if anyone did notice us, they would see only a man and woman occasionally laughing, talking and having a visit - but what a visit.

I have determined that everyday, I will be more compassionate and show the compassion, to everyone - you don't know the weight of a burden they could be carrying.

I Miss Camping - Really!

We sold our truck and camper last summer - I knew I'd miss camping a lot.

Considered buying a tent trailer but I do worry about bears - there are a lot in the bush and actually they wander into yards, too.

If I do buy one, I guess best hang the food way over to the side!

Celebrating July 1 and 4th as One!

Have a safe and happy holiday!
