Yikes! Word of the day - Families

I tried to stay up til midnight to post the Thursday word & couldn't - then forgot this morn. Anyway, "families" is it. I have to go to the garden for a bit and then I'll post my list - which I haven't made yet, ha,ha.

Moms thru the Eyes of Kids

"Do Not Feed the Geese"

The Un - Picnic

So we had a lovely "unpicnic" day. For all the stuff I packed, it appeared we were off on a weekend camping trip. Anyway, I guess knew I should have stayed home when (1) I got up and realized I had forgotten to put the gel paks in the freezer. By some miracle they froze in time.

We headed to the next little city and scouted around several used shops for books - (2) bought 3 books and were over charged for them. Then (3) put money in the meter for 1/2 hour, added a quarter and got 16 minutes! A bit thick so carried on. (4)"Accidentally" headed out on the highway managing to get lost on back roads. Off to Safeway and the Dollar store and one other we like. The stress(ha,ha) was causing my tummy to growl so we decided to go to our park and eat. (5) The place was invaded by huge Canadian geese, ducks and pigeons and starlings. People don't listen and were feeding grain, etc. to the geese - a no, no. We got out a took a few pics before a goose carried me away.

It's now 5:30pm and we head south toward home - I think -
Anyway, we see a picnic table 10 miles from home and decide, by gum, we're going to have our picnic whatever. (6)Whatever turned in to an ugly, snarling, lame dog who arrived growling just as we lay the tablecloth and cooler down. Very relieved when (7) ignorant manager showed up to "rescue" us from his dog who is now lying there like an angel. (8) He tells us the gates are now being locked - at 5:30pm to a government tourist info site. Now I turned into an ugly, snarling dog. Just kidding - by this time we said we'd leave and drove home. It actually was pretty funny as we recounted our day - and there were no bugs when we lay our picnic fare on the kitchen table and finally ate after 6pm! (9) The Ducks trounced Ottawa - I'm going to bed!

Our fancy un-picnic basket from S&R a few years ago. Oh, well.

From our friend, Carole - Thanks.

"We Spotted a Weirdo"

Elaine asked if I had a pic of my wet pants - no pic. They are hanging in the garage and dry now. Being they were full of garden soil and dust, I was a walking mud pie. Sure felt yucky - at first I decided I'd walk around and they would dry in no time but they were too muddy.

Had just taken a pic of the friendly neighborhood RCMP who search for grow ops - those poor boys will never be the same again. Being I knew Rob wasn't home from work yet, I slipped my pants off on the back step.

How strange - they haven't flown over today - probably haven't recovered.

Day 1

Morning, Everyone. Just gathering our stuff to go "picnicking". It's a feast. We're taking books to read and the camera for posterity, hee, hee. We have a very hot day here - it's 24 in the house which is about 78-80 degrees. Won't put the air on being we are going out. Our basement is a haven - almost too cool. Am I ever happy???

Decided Wednesdays will be our fun or easy day - seems I could work everyday. Although gardening is pleasure, I thought it would be nice to do something specific on Wednesdays - so, today the picnic.

Hope you all have a good day whatever your plans are.

What is it?

Day is Done - at Least for Me!

Planted the asparagus I got last week. The other pic is of sunlight in the shrub at the back pool bed - I thought it was pretty.

Very warm out but that's nice. We are going to the store to buy picnic food - tomorrow we'll drive 1/2 hour North and picnic at a park we like. I'll take pics. Hope you all had a great day.
I ended my gardening day on a funny note- walked into the sprinkler - didn't see it as sun was in my eyes - it soaked my pants and woke me up really fast. Oh, yes.

Elaine's Garden - Wow!

With thanks to Elaine. What a beautiful garden you have! Send any pics - we all like to see each other's yards. Thank you again!

It's Sprummer, It's Sprummer!

Just a gorgeous day going here - will be hot- forecasting temps around 30 - we love it. There should be a new season cause it's not spring any longer and I guess it's not official summer, how about sprummer?

Check out Trish's site- she had her annual Memorial Day picnic - looks like such fun. Maybe next year? I love a fire at night. Fun.

Just heading out to plant my day lilies - we have room in the pool bed yet. they bloom in June/July making a dramatic presence.

Have a nice day, everyone.

No Regard For Other People - - - Especially Your Brother

So we were called last night and arrangements made to see people today after lunch - at our home. Yes, you made the arrangements, not I. Guess you guys really don't get it - Life is not as it used to be. Repeat after me - - -

I got both of us up early. We showered and brushed teeth and dressed and ate. I kept saying that company was coming. - Repeat after me - "Life is not as it used to be." Maybe write a hundred lines so it sinks in.

At 2 pm I finally called your cell - we had not heard from you & I had to pick something up at the pharmacy before it closed.

You informed me that the other party had left town at 11am so the planned visit was off. Sincerest thanks for letting us know - walk a mile in his shoes. Your own brother you toss off.

My sincerest thanks for making a day even more difficult & confusing for my Man - who I obviously love more than you do. But that's been obvious for a long, long while. Trust none of the bunch of you ever has to walk in his shoes because no one has empathy for anyone -especially for your own family member.

Am I surprised, no. Am I disappointed, no. You're transparent.

Wish I Were a Monkey!

A tourist walked into a pet shop and was looking at the animals on display. While he was there, another customer walked in and went over to a cage at the side of the shop and took out a monkey.

He fit a collar and leash, handed it to the customer, saying, "That'll be $5000." The customer paid and walked out with his monkey.

Startled, the tourist went over to the shopkeeper and said, "That was a very expensive monkey. Most of them are only a few hundred dollars. Why did it cost so much?"

The shopkeeper answered, "Ah, that monkey can program in C - very fast, tight code, no bugs, well worth the money."

The tourist looked at the monkey in another cage. "That one's even more expensive - $10,000! What does it do?"

"Oh, that one's a C++ monkey; it can manage object-oriented programming, Visual C++, even some Java. All the really useful stuff," said the shopkeeper.

The tourist looked around for a little longer and saw a third monkey in a cage of its own. The price tag around its neck read $50,000. He gasped to the shopkeeper, "That one costs more than all the others put together! What on earth does it do?"

The shopkeeper replied, "Well, I haven't actually seen it do anything, but it says it's a consultant."

Why is it so difficult !!???

So just for fun I put a countdown to 2008 on my page - it took 1 hour 15 minutes! Shouldn't admit that but what is going on? Anyway, I am having page problems ever since I added the floral banner to the header. And that's a week ago.

We're sitting here celebrating my accomplishment (finally) and I said to my Hon that I think God took pity on me & "made it work". Think I felt a smack on the head! I actually had to go into the code and change a couple things - then it worked. Ah, the mysteries of computers.

Ackk -doesn't work - hours don't show.

Update: now the hours show! "The mysteries of computers!"

Memorial Day Wishes From Canada!

Full Circle

So I have decided to set Hon's office up again. We have a lot of company and being he wasn't using it, converted it to a mighty handsome guest room. But, a little string always tugged at my heart telling me to make it his again - so -

Got rid of the 2 twin beds and soon as I collect some energy, will set his office stuff up. Luckily, I kept all his furniture. Over the years I've bought him chess related stuff including a chess table, so should look "homey" again.

He has some nice keepsakes so I'll get those arranged. This room won't be used although maybe he and I will sit there and read sometime. There are built in bookshelves. Full bookshelves! I do need to buy two reading chairs for us.

Well, better get at it.

Dad, Remembering You With Love

Dad, you passed away two years ago today - about 2:25pm - leaving am empty spot never to be refilled. Love you.

Friday, May 25, 2007

It's been a wonderful visit with lots of food, laughter, fun and movies! I never watch movies. My bro couldn't believe I sat thru a 2 hour movie - in a chair - actually watching. Usually I read or am on the computer while I "watch".

Weather has been perfect - blue sky and warm temps. I couldn't think of one thing to complain about - will have to post pics of our dinner last night. We are very fortunate.

Hope everyone is well - missed you all but busy times. Fun, busy times.

So Tiger called for some hints on putting!

Yours truly got a hole one! Kind of one of those "did I see right" moments?? Don't tell anyone it was mini golf. And my putting - well, I couldn't miss! So funny as can't hit broad side of a barn with a baseball! A few pic - - -

Word of the Week

conditioners - have fun, kids.

now I better get to bed!

What a Wonderful Day!

After being concerned how the day would go, I shouldn't have worried. There were a few snags with our plumbing. We had a new main shut off valve put in, the Air conditioner pump and some general servicing. We also had a new modem put in the midst of the plumbing fiasco. Cute! Wasn't planning well to schedule this with 4 guests for dinner at 6pm! I got water by 4pm and made like a whirlwind to complete the stuff for dinner.

N&D arrived safely after a 5 hour trip - it's always so good to have company! Even Buddy the cat, was happy and he promptly hopped into N's bag and made himself comfortable. Ha,ha!

Well, it's 10:40pm and I enjoy recalling the day - sitting here with my trusty computer and my blogger friends. The clock is ticking me to sleep so best say good night til tomorrow.

We plan mini golf and lunch out - then ravioli casserole and BBQ chicken breasts for dinner.

Good night - sleep tight!

Busy but Happy!

I bought asparagus yesterday- the box has 10 plants - hopefully some spring day in 2 years, I will be dining on my own fresh asparagus. We love it and it's $1.89 lb. if we're lucky. Plus it's pretty in the garden.

Another great day going - a bit overcast. Having an issue with starlings all over my yard, They think they own it and I have to swing a towel over my head to chase them (crazy lady at it again).

Thought of blogville as I was headed down to the pantry to get pasta so here I sit~ I'm making the pasta salad mentioned a bit ago. Plumber is to be coming to do a couple things, company is on it's way, S&R coming for dinner.

Who said retirement is boring?!

In a Funk - - -

The mind is a powerful thing - today mine is playing games on me. I'm in a funk and don't know why. We had a lovely day. Deposited the camper/truck money, shopped Wal-Mart. Bought asparagus there and 3 more heliotrope, etc. Then off to White Spot for a lovely turkey sandwich with my Hon. After 42 years we still enjoy each other's company - we lingered over coffee and huge tumblers of icy water. How nice.

Safeway called after that - we had a large order as have N&D coming tomorrow for a few days! I love to shop for food or anything. Not so crazy about putting it all away when I get home- why is that?

Several wonderful phone calls later it's time for dinner. We "dined" on potatoes, wieners (!), coleslaw, fresh tomato and beans. This luxury dinner was because the Ducks were playing and I had to sit down with my plate of wienies and concentrate on the game. (I kind of coach along with Randy Carlyle).

Well, maybe I feel better having talked about it!

For My Hon

Bro painted a pic with lilies and we have 2 indoor pots which seem to bloom all year round. (For lack of care, I guess) Anyway, everyday, My Hon admires the plants and comments on the flowers and the painting. For you.

To Clarify - - -

Someone wondered why I posted the Happy Mothers Day greeting a week late (from the blog). In my computer challenged world, I just figured out how to copy it from his blog to mine! I know, shouldn't admit my level of expertise. I totally wing it blogging. When something "works" I'm so excited! Like the calendar. And, yes, I could ask computer son but I like to suffer.

This fall I'd like to take courses to make the muddy water clear.

Another Day to Appreciate!

There is so much to write about that I may do point form - wouldn't want the thousands who read my blog to fall asleep. Use caution anyway, ha, ha.

(1) It's an absolutely gorgeous day here - sun is hot already
(2)I think have myself turned around to a decent sleep schedule (bed by 10:30pm and up early~but that's better than being up half the night and still up early, right!)
(3)Just reading in our local paper"Poverty is every one's business, you may not be as immune to adversity as you think"
(4)This blogging has given me a release of sorts and usually I write a bit tongue-in-cheek to ease the ache.
(5)I love, love, love everyone I'm met on my blog & feel as if I know you personally.
(6)So far I've only had to remove a few comments I felt were not in keeping with the spirit of my blog - I try to keep it that way.
(7) Anonymous isn't "anonymous" in the world of computers and like our parents used to say, "If you can't think of something nice to say, don't say anything"
(8)As I observe and interact with people, it seems we all have the same goals, have friends, be successful in whatever your endeavor, be able to live in some comfort - can anyone else add others?
(9)It's funny, a stranger just rang the doorbell (selling) and it got me off my brilliant train of thought so mercifully I will end this post. Have a great day where ever you are and whatever you are doing today.

If you click on the pics, there's incredible detail- we went to bed to a calm ocean and awoke to these huge waves. The noise was so great we had to yell to talk as we watched them roll in. There were 2 surfers who came in really quickly but I don't have them on my digital - I think may have a pic of them - it was pretty scary to watch. Glad you ladies enjoy these.

We were with another couple when this pic was taken. He wanted me to pose but couldn't for fear of being blown off the cliff. Wild winds nearly tore my pants off and the force actually hurt my legs - I thought my pants would be ripped to shreds.

So anyway, long story short, I sat in a depression and he took a pic. But didn't give me a copy as used his camera. Oh, well - - -

Happy Mothers Day Mom!

Not everyone has a blogger geek for a Mom but I do.

omoni salanghae (Mom I love you)

Plebian Fare - Just Kidding

We love Kraft dinner mixed with mushroom soup and canned chili (or homemade if I have it) served with coleslaw.

We love Chunky clam chowder on toast.

We love just about anything - obviously!

Your favorites??

Sweet Love

I just checked on you, my Love, to find You fast asleep cuddled up to my pillow. Wish I had been there for your embrace.

Unrewarded Honesty

Another day given - it's kind of a pretty purple/pink sky as storms are hovering - feel sorry for all the holiday weekend "get togethers" if it rains.

We have a very quiet day planned - actually no plans.

Yesterday, Shirl and I were reminiscing about losing my wallet with over $794. cash in it. (In '74, that was my monthly pay cheque.) It fell from my bag during a rest stop at Field.

Months later, I received a package from the Field RCMP with my wallet intact. I called to see who found it to give a reward - some fellow with the Highways Dept. Phoned them and was told it was "his duty" to turn it over to RCMP. Uh, maybe, but it had a wad of cash - yup, still his duty!

So, to the wonderful employee who returned my wallet, thanks! I am so sorry I couldn't get your name and reward you - you must think I'm a real piker.

A Big Thank You!

Robin power scrubbed our deck today - took about 2 hours of hard work - can't thank you enough.

Sweet

Dog in China feeds orphaned tiger pups after tiger mom refused them. Her pup is the one on the right.

The Quiet

How do you spend your quiet time alone? I spend many hours alone with my thoughts. By my nature, I like to organize and keep track of my thoughts, recipes, etc. so do a lot of that. I write a bit and hope someday to publish a small book/pamphlet about our life together.
Phone calls are always welcome, read voraciously, love reading blogs and have formed some close relationships. I dream and remember.

So what do you do?

Any Farms for Sale Out There?

Just going thru our grocery flyers and I freak at the price of meat/poultry. What's with that - I doubt the farmers are getting these huge increases passed on to them. I realize costs go up for everyone but $3.58 for drumettes!! They got too popular.

Actually, we try to eat meatless about 50% of our meals and if these prices continue we may be meatless in our house!

I noticed last night that I ate all my vegs, beans, bread, salad, potato and then picked away at my steak.

What are your thoughts?

Victoria Day Memories

Years ago I suggested to the Man's side of the family that we meet in Jasper for the May holiday weekend. We did for 5 or 6 years til the novelty wore off and the cabin prices soared. Being creatures of habit, we always reserved our same cabin from year to year - even tho it was small and we could have had a larger one. In Sept. 04, my Man and I returned, probably for the last time, to enjoy the pristine beauty of the area.

Thanks for the memories, Jasper!

Never a Dull Moment at Our House - - -

So we BBQ'd the steaks, baked the asparagus and potatoes, made our lettuce salad. I serve most meals buffet style - I set the food out and lifted a T- towel on my huge bowl of raw vegs which were to be grilled! Actually, it worked out OK as we just made mega salads. I had marinated the vegs in Italian dressing so worked OK.

Couldn't believe how well the cheap little BBQ handled 4 large steaks. We have always bought large expensive BBQ's but being I'm not sure if/where we could be moving, didn't want to pay $800. and maybe not be able to have a BBQ.

Anyway, it was a nice day and ended well. Hope you all had good days, too.

Wise Counsel

If you were to give advice to a new bride, what would it be?
I'd tell her to have a food processor and stocked pantry, ha!

Ouch, Lesson Learned - I Found Them!

So down loaded my pics from yesterday and this morn - and I don't know what happened but I lost them all - I started clicking to "remove pics" after loading but from now on I will make sure they did load.

Had some nice shots of robins close by us as we sat in our lawn chairs. The sunrise was soft and mellow - -anyway, live and learn.
Click on the pic and you will see "our" robin - we enjoyed him yesterday!

So, Who is Coming Tonight?

The BBQ bash is tonight at 5pm - early but we are old, ha,ha.
So far the offerings are: steak, mushrooms/onions, potatoes with olives, asparagus with parm, green salad, grilled assorted vegetables and toasted Italian bread.
We recently bought a high-end BBQ ($69.00 chuckle) and this will be it's initial use.

You all come now - if you're lucky I may even serenade you with a Connie Francis tune. BTW, I'm not that fat! Pics always add pounds, you know ~

Morning Everyone!

Just watching sunrise - took a pic - it was very soft and somewhat pink. It's chilly out there.
