I'm not especially fond of fruit ... except pears. What a comforting image you've shared!
PS - A couple months ago I was grousing to hubby that I couldn't find a single pear at the store. (Can you tell, I don't do much shopping? ... I'm such a dolt!)
No idea about canning fruit and don't know what waiting for the "ping" means. I only know we received our Medjool dates from California yesterday and Ron is keeping them next to him in the den so he can count every one that I take. They are his annual birthday present to himself and he is very protective of them. LOL
After I do canning I sit and count the pings too. It is satisfying to know the job was done well. That is a lot of pears...I haven't done them for years.

Well, I am a lazy bum. I vacuumed. I grocery shopped. Legs gave out. Came home.
But YOU. Sitting in your rocker is a well-deserved rest.
Nice.....wish I had the gumption!
Yum, you'll enjoy them in the cold winter months.
Ordinary kitchen activities are soothing.
The clinking sounds like a comforting sound...
I bet they'll taste mighty good this winter...
